Gallery Opens June 8!

Gallery Opens June 8! May 28, 2017 12:22

It's hard to believe this is happening, but we are opening our own beautiful gallery in Longmont, Colorado! The gallery is located at 700 Tenacity Dr #102 in Prospect New Town and we are hosting the Grand Opening on June 8 from 5p-8pm.

The opening show is called PROSPECTO and is a nod to the neighborhood. Prospect means to have the expectation that something good is going to happen; and to seek something great, and of immense value. That's what we've found here, and we're excited to be part of it.

The Gallery will feature the pottery studio of Russell Coburn, along with photographs by former Santa Fe artist Elliott McDowell.

We hope to see you there!

Groovin on a Sunday Afternoon

Groovin on a Sunday Afternoon April 24, 2016 12:39

It's a beautiful spring day here in Boulder - on the way back from breakfast we saw a couple of eagles, some American White Pelicans returning for the season, hawks and all sorts of neighborhood birds: doves, robins, finches...
Russ is once again deep into studio work this weekend, and I'm busy supplying him with new playlists on his iPod to keep the creative energy flowing! I'm also still fine-tuning this website. The online "store" had more items showing that had already sold than items actually for sale...I'm on a steep learning curve here  ;-)
Hoping your day finds you inspired by something or someone nearby!

Throwback Thursday

Throwback Thursday April 14, 2016 17:35

In September, 1975, Russ had a show at The Selective Eye gallery in Santa Fe, NM. From a newspaper article at the time:
A high degree of technical perfection underlies the aesthetic satisfaction one can obtain from the work of Russell Coburn, according to Donald Wright, co-owner of The Selective Eye. His unique cloud and landscape glazes have an oriental quality to them about which Coburn says, "Many of my inspirations come from ancient oriental shapes and glaze. During that historical period the technical and artistic advancements were at their highest. I strive to achieve the perfection of form and richness of glaze that have been lost to many contemporary potters."

Pretty much exactly how he feels about it 40+ years later! The gallery changed hands and is now called The Golden Eye, located across the street from the original location on Don Gaspar in Santa Fe. year later... year later... April 14, 2016 16:48

We set this up and then promptly never wrote another thing :) Trying to get back on track here as Russ is in the studio making lots of new pieces and preparing to get some big jars ready for a wood firing at the farm this summer!

New Store!

New Store! February 26, 2015 10:40

We are excited to get a new store set up for selling Coburn Studio pottery! We had no idea it would come to this when we first started showing some of Russ's pots on our Facebook page. Check there for updates, and we'll try to post something on this blog once in awhile, too. As I type, Russ is busy in the studio finishing up glazing for a kiln load to fire before we take off for a few days. He's working on a really cool new series and we can't wait to show it!
